Mystical beliefs for the hair
In Germany people giving vows for revenge do not cut their hair in order to keep their strength and stay invisible.
French kings hair was not cut since children, if that happens it was a sign for declining the throne.
Very short hair was not honored!  In Ireland for example people believed that people with such haircut have a connection with the dark side because the “hedgehog” on the head is always on alert because it is contacting with dark forces.
Just as important in the mystical estimate of the hair is its color.White and golden hair reminds of a God’s light and symbolizes immortality. With such long curls depicted were angels on the Byzantium icons from seventh and eighth century. Brown hair brings strength to the inner energy of the person. Copper shades were related to Venus who for many people is an embodiment to debauchery. That is why this color speaks of debauchery and devilish temper. Venetian painters depicted the courtesans with ginger hair. Women with ginger hair are blamed to be in unity with evil forces. This color was a sign of betrayal and mental breakdown. That is the hair color of Judas.

The same dark reputation has the black hair. They seem to bear the traces of tar prints of hell and evil. Blackheads in the imagination of our ancestors are identified with the devil and the demons of hell and brunettes – hidden witches. In western Serbia, where a child’s hair was cut, one strand of hair was left – for luck.
In Medieval times people believed that the evil force of witches and wizards, through the hair goes to the space and opens it. That is why the executioners of the Inquisition before starting the torture shaved all the hair on their bodies. Voluntarily were shaved only people who were mentally ill and there is a saying that when you are in sorrow – “renounce your hair and throw in them all that is evil”.
Indian Brahmins and Buddhist monks sacrifice their hair, as a piece of themselves in the name of the God. They shave their heads emphasizing their slavery nature. Even nowadays there is a saying that you should not throw away hair after cutting it in order not to get sick. T should be burnt, hidden under the doorstep or under a tree. To help a sick person, hair of where the disease might be is put on a tree branch or is given to a dog so that the problem would go to the plant or the animal. People tried to have a piece of heir of their closed ones. After the death they hid it in beautiful boxes and made braces or amulets with them. The hair knot had a very mystical significance. On a string or in a ring it magically “stopped” the person and entered them in a safe place.
